The Natural History Museum
of Santa Maria is coordinating an Earth Day Celebration, scheduled
for Saturday, April 22.
The theme selected this year is "Conservation
Begins With Me." Activities appealing to all age groups are
scheduled throughout the day, beginning with a guided walking
tour of historic Santa Maria neighborhoods at 10 am, followed
by opening ceremonies at 11 am in front of the Natural History
Museum at 412 E. McClelland.
The day will be filled with live music, art
and performers in addition to alternative energy demonstrations,
environmental information and vendor booths.
Free children's craft activities and a fossil
dig are also planned.
Presenters include Ryan LaPorte, who will
be demonstrating the advantages of bio-diesel, Rob Engel on
composting techniques, and Pete Crowheart Zavala's unique multi-faceted
presentation of the significance of the environment in Native
American culture.
Great White Dental will receive the special
Earth Day Award in recognition of their efforts on behalf of
the environment.
The event is open to the public, free of
charge.
Maui Bar-b-Que will serve up delicious Hawaiian
style specialties as a fund raising activity to support the
Natural History Museum.
Morgan Stanley, Toyota of
Santa Maria and the Home Depot have each made generous contributions
to make this event possible.
